At Night, My Demon Comes
The sun sinks down below my window,
The knobby wooden rocking chair starts
to creak and rock, no wind is blowing
…He wants to come out and play.
It’s been a few days since he
last desecrated me with His presence.
Will my mind be overcome by
that which I am most afraid of?
The sound of people screaming,
The sight of blood flowing
like too much wine.
He will never let me go.
He’s filled in my broken parts
with fire and brimstone.
Everything stops,
I breathe in frigid air
A blasphemous rage
as He crawls into my being.
Am I more monster than man
…I think I am.
I have stopped fighting back.
I will revel in their bloodshed
and thrive in His darkness.

Rhinos
Ambassadors against your own extinction.
The stalkers in the night,
they don’t hear your cries for sanctuary,
or your cries for the right to live.
only the swift exchange of money for keratin.
The same in fingernails, hair,
but in a horn, is worth more than gold.
Your life is worth less than pieces of paper and
Your armor will never be strong enough
To stand against human destruction.
You are dying for false beliefs,
like so many others before you.
But when you’re just an animal,
no one calls your deaths genocide.
